Is it okay to use feliway diffuser or spray as an everyday preventative? Such thing as too much feliway?
I plan on getting a Cat in the future and while it will be from a very reputable breeder, I want to take as many preventative measures as I can to not cause or allow stressful situations with her. I have a dog and she will be traveling from a familiar place to an unfamiliar one. I just don’t want to deal with the horror stories of spraying, scratching, peeing in corners and furniture. So is it safe and fair to my cat to always have feliway plugged up and in use. Or is it like a constant drugging where she won’t ever have time to just be in a non-pheremone induced environment and eventually from over-exposure it’ll stop working. So is there a such thing as too much feliway?
Feliway is harmless, and many Cats need it long term. In your case, I’d get a plug in for the room you’ll be keeping her in until you can properly integrate her with the dog (slowly!). Once that’s gone, then you can see how she does without. In most cases, it’s just needed to get through that initial period of stress and adjustment, then isn’t necessary. The best way to avoid stress is to give her her own room, slowly introduce her to the dog, and take your time. In the meantime, brushing up on basic obedience for the dog (sit/stay) will be the best insurance against stressing her that you can get. Cats get along just fine with well mannered dogs, but tend to either fear or hate those that are allowed to chase them, even in play.
